Car Parking

Council Car Park & Pay & Display

The Christchurch City Council has announced they are reintroducing parking charges from Monday July 4 in areas outside the red zone. This will include the Car Park Building, on site Pay & Display and the monitoring of time restricted parking bays (P5, P10, P90, P120 etc) and mobility bays. The Hagley Park P180 parking areas located at the Cricket Oval, the Tennis Courts and the Armagh St parks are the only car park areas excluded from this monitoring. More information can be here.

Concessions:

We are unable to offer concessions at this time and trust that visitors are directed to the park for the foreseeable future.

Private Parking Options:

We have been made aware that a number of private providers are asking potential users to sign lease agreements or contracts for a set period of time. We understand that for staff who would normally have access to the Staff Car Park this could pose a problem when staff charging recommences. We would like to reassure staff that on production of a signed agreement we will honour their staff parking arrangements at no charge until such time a private agreement ceases.

Hagley Park:

We have agreed with the Council that we can continue to park on the grass until September, however beyond maintaining the access areas we are not able to lay any permanent or hard surface in the parking area itself. We will continue to assist staff as and when we can but would actively encourage drivers to consider looking for alternative parking options.

Staff Car Park:

We would like to reassure staff that work is underway on the staff car park. The upper portion of the top ramp has been removed and new handrails for this area are currently being manufactured to ensure the safety of the new configuration. A number of the steel bracing elements have also been removed and repairs commenced on individual sections. This process may give the impression no work is underway on site but please rest assured it is and that we will be trying to open the car park in stages as repairs are completed. We have no timeframe for this work as each aftershock can put additional stress onto the building.

Brewery Car Park IS OPEN:

We have use of part of the Brewery Car Park and the Stewart Street entrance gates are open. We will tow any car from this area that we cannot identify as belonging to a CDHB staff member. A car park sticker, business card or headed department paper is acceptable as ID.

Reserved Staff Parking:

Please refrain from parking in these bays unless you are authorised to do so. We are working to get CDHB cars and Duty Staff into allocated parking – and the car park bay may have been allocated to others temporarily. Unless you have been authorised by Support Services to use a reserved space please refrain from parking somewhere you may get towed from.

Alternative Transport Options:

A great number of staff have also reverted to cycling to work and using the buses, we have been looking for more places to locate bike racks and actively encourage those that can to consider an alternative way of getting to work. Motorbike parking has been made available outside ED by the traffic lights and is signposted. This area should not be used for bicycles; please use the compounds and/or racks available around the sites. Please do not bring bikes into the hospital buildings under any circumstances. If you are unable to locate a vacant bike stand please contact security for assistance.
