Maori Health Consultation Hui

The Canterbury District Health Board will hold two consultation hui on its proposed Maori Health Plan later this month.

The proposed five-year plan will be presented at two hui, to be held on 15 March and 27 March, at the Hagley Netball Centre in South Hagley Park.

Hector Matthews, Executive Director Maori and Pacific Health, says improving Maori health is both a CDHB and national priority. He wants to gather feedback from as many Maori as possible to help ensure the plan meets the needs of Maori in Canterbury.

“It would be nice to see members of the public coming along who have an interest in health but are not working in health. We get a lot of opportunities to elicit the views of people working in health, and while we value those opinions, this is also an opportunity for those people not involved in health to have a say.”

He says two major areas that the plan focuses on are improving the health status of Maori and ways in which to encourage more Maori to work in the health sector.

The hui will be held at The Hagley Netball Centre, South Hagley Park, on Thursday 15 March and Tuesday 27 March from 9am-12 midday.
