Community and Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee

The Board appoints members to the Committees. The Committees comprise both board members and members of the public. They have a statutory governance role in providing the Board advice on the health needs of the resident population and any factors that the committee believes may adversely affect that health status, and to provide advice on priorities for use of the health funding provided.

Olive Webb - Chair

Olive Webb - Deputy Chair

Olive is a Clinical Psychologist and independent Health and Disability Consultant with more than 35 years experience working in the mental health and disability sector, particularly with people with intellectual disabilities. She has served on the Board since 2000 and is committed to rural health issues and delivery.

Jo Kane

Jo Kane
Jo Kane is a former Waimakariri District Councillor and Deputy Mayor, and currently Deputy Chairperson for Environment Canterbury. She believes in protecting family health and wellbeing as a basic right for people.

Matea Gillies

Matea Gillies
Matea has been a GP for 30 years. He is of Ngai Tahu descent and Chairperson of the Ngai Tahu Runanga Health collective - Manawhenua ki Waitaha. He believes primary and secondary health services need to work together more efficiently.

Eleanor Carter

Eleanor Carter
Eleanor is an advocate for patient needs. Previously a Health Cuts Hurt spokesperson, Eleanor believes that health services should be funded according to community need in a transparent and effective manner.

Andrew Dickerson

Andrew Dickerson
Andrew has 25 years experience in the health and disability sectors and is a former Chief Executive of Age Concern Canterbury. He would like to see improved access to elective surgery and better integration of hospital and GP services. Andrew believes the results of rest home audits should be made public and is committed to improving accountability and transparency in the health service.

Chris Ryan

Chris Ryan
An Ashburton GP for 20 years, Chris has been Chair of the Ashburton District Health Committee, GP representative Rural Canterbury PHO Board, Secretary of the Canterbury Faculty of the Royal NZ College of GPs and a GP education facilitator. Chris believes health professionals need to be involved in decision making, and money should be spent on effective projects.

Anna Crighton

Anna Crighton
Anna Crighton served 12 years as a Christchurch City Councillor. Anna is committed to the CDHB continually improving its health care and services especially Aged Care Services, elective surgery and for the CDHB to work closely with GPs. As an advocate for stronger communities she believes the CDHB must be fully accountable and transparent to its patients and Canterbury residents.

Wendy Dallas-Katoa

 
Wendy is of Ngai Tahu, Waitaha and Kati Mamoe iwi descent. She has over 25 years experience working in healthcare including; as a practice nurse, in hospitals, and as a public health nurse and Maori public health nurse. She has also worked for a national programme with the Maori SIDS prevention team, a role which involved coordinating Te Waipounamu and training Maori providers in Tamariki Ora best practice models.

She has worked at Pegasus Health as the Manager/Advisor - Maori Health, working with general practice teams for eight years. For the last three years of her time with Pegasus Health she also worked part time at MIHI (Maori Indigenous Health Institute, Otago, Christchurch School of Medicine) contributing to the teaching team and as a Research Fellow on international collaborative indigenous projects and Hauora Manawa, Community Heart Study.

Wendy is currently working at Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu, Te Toitu te Iwi, leading their Health and Social Wellbeing. She has a RCpN; BA in Health Studies from Te Whare Wananga o Raukawa, a Certificate in Clinical Teaching, Diploma in Public Health and is working towards her MPH at Otago University.

 

Richard Davison

Dick Davison comes from a farming background with involvement in rural community and businesses. He currently chairs Amuri Health Care Ltd, a community owned general practice; and Hurunui-Kaikoura Primary Health Organisation, with 12,000 registered patients. Other roles include membership of the CDHB Consumer Council, trustee of the Amuri Community Trust and Central Plains Water Trust. Commercial experience includes a lifetime in agriculture and governance roles in Ravensdown, Landcorp and AgResearch.

Dick is a registered valuer and lives near Culverden.

Steve has lived on Banks Peninsula for thirty years and brings a rural perspective to the Advisory Committee. His background is in Museum Management and he has served on numerous Boards, especially those which have a cultural or educational purview. For six years Steve was a member and sometime Chair of the Rural Canterbury Primary Health Organisation.

Margaret Schwass

Margaret has a nursing and education background with over thirty five years experience in the area of disabilities. She has been on the CPHAC/DSAC committee for the last two years and is committed to advocating for improvements in attitude, communication and access to Primary Health services for people with disability within the Canterbury region. 

Alister James (Ex Officio)

Alister James - Chair

Alister served 20 years as a Christchurch City Councillor and is a lawyer with a particular interest in adolescent health, mental health, alcohol and drug treatment services. He is keen to improve DHB and community relations.
