DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Nursing

We are currently actively recruiting Staff Nurses:

The Emergency Department is currently actively recruiting for Staff Nurses either as part time or full time. This department is one of the busiest in Australasia and is a very exciting, rewarding and supportive environment to work in. Previous Emergency nursing experience is not necessarily essential and we challenge all and any nurses to contact the Nurse Manager, Anne Esson for further enquiries.

The nursing staff here find their work both challenging and rewarding. With the Department experiencing increasing demand there are many opportunities for Registered Nurses to extend their current skills, and work in a semi-autonomous fashion. The Department is committed to pushing the boundaries of emergency nursing, with an end goal of nurse –led patient management for a number of presentations.

Teamwork with our medical colleagues and allied health staff is the backbone of any ED and is no different here in Christchurch. Nursing staff receive great support from their colleagues of all disciplines.

Currently, there are approximately 120 Registered Nurses in the ED. Additionally there is:

  • 1 Nurse Manager
  • 1 Charge Nurse Manager
  • 6 FTE Associate Clinical Nurse Managers (ACNMs)

18% of our nurses have now completed their post graduate certificates in Emergency Nursing

We have various nurse initiated drug protocols, X rays and direct nurse referrals to other clinical areas.

I hope that you enjoy the newly updated website, and find the information useful to you. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
