Entry to Specialty Practice/New Graduate Mental Health Nursing Programme (ESP)

This is an exciting learning opportunity that provides substantial support and guidance for experienced and newly qualified nurses during the transition into mental health nursing. Nurses on the programme undertake a period of study with the University of Otago, Christchurch, which aims to integrate nursing practice with theory and the development of critical thinking and research skills.

What does the programme involve?

 

 

 

University Study

Two post graduate papers are undertaken in this 10 month programme:

These papers have mental health nursing practice as their focus. Reflection is the mechanism by which new knowledge is incorporated into everyday practice.

 

 

 

The Clinical Experience

Participants’ complete three clinical rotations; one in a community area and up to two in inpatient areas. These areas include -

 

 

 

Recognition

Upon completion of this programme you will have attained a nationally and
Internationally recognised qualification that also provides a step towards a Masters Degree qualification. This programme has successfully run in the CDHB for 12 years and is Nursing Council approved.
