RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICERS' UNIT

Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery provides acute and elective surgery for patients with cardiovascular and thoracic disease. It is a small but busy service due to the nature of the patients, with around 450 admissions a year. The team comprises of 2 surgeons, 1 senior registrar/fellow, 3 registrars and a house officer. All RMOs gain considerable exposure to theatres and attend ICU, Cardiology and Respiratory multi-disciplinary meetings.

It is likely that a training position will be developed, once a third surgeon is appointed.
