The Department of Nephrology provides a full range of nephrology services for the people of Canterbury and consultative general nephrology services for the people of the West Coast. In addition to this, it provides dialysis and transplant services for West Coast DHB and a kidney transplant service for Otago and Southland.
Services Provided
Diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with all forms of kidney disease including acute and chronic kidney failure.
Provision of inpatient, outpatient and day patient nephrology services.
Operation of the Home Dialysis Training Centre and Acute Dialysis Unit including:
Patient training and follow-up for both haemodialysis and CAPD
Haemo and peritoneal dialysis for acute renal failure
Provision (together with the Department of Surgery) of deceased and live donor kidney transplant services for Canterbury, West Coast, Otago and Southland.
Other Activities
Undergraduate teaching.
Postgraduate training in nephrology for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
