RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICERS' UNIT

Palliative Care

The Christchurch Hospital Palliative Care Service was established in 1999.  It is a consultation service and our offices are located within the Oncology Department.  Most referrals are received from Christchurch Hospital but the service also provides advice and reviews to patients in The Princess Margaret Hospital, the Women’s Hospital, Hillmorton Hospital and Burwood Hospital.  The Service also runs a weekly outpatient clinic seeing both follow ups and new referrals.

The Clinical Director of the Service is Dr Kate Grundy, Palliative Medicine Physician, working alongside two Palliative Care Nurse Specialists, Anne Morgan and Willem Vink.  There is a permanent Palliative Medicine Registrar position ideally suited to Palliative Medicine advanced trainees completing their Hospital Liaison term. It is also available to advanced trainees in other specialties, and also to basic trainees.  The position is ideally suited to advanced trainees, but basics trainees are welcome to apply if they are interested in pursuing palliative medicine as a career or wish to enhance their knowledge in this area.  The service receives both oncology and non-oncology referrals, liaises closely with community services and provides a comprehensive programme of specialist education in Palliative Care.

Any enquiries should be directed to Kate Grundy:
